Happy 15th birthday, Xen!

Xen Oct 24, 2018

XCP-ng couldn't exist without the fantastic engine in its core: Xen, the hypervisor. And guess what? It just turned 15!

For this occasion, Xen project released a dedicated website, doing a recap on this fantastic journey: https://15anniversary.xenproject.org

We'd like to add few comments on dates that are important:

  • in 2009, first version of Xen Orchestra was released (working on xend), helping users to manage more easily their VMs
  • 2009 is also when XCP was released: yes, XCP-ng ancestor is 9 years old already!
  • in 2013, Xen Orchestra worked on XAPI (XCP/XenServer)
  • in 2018, thanks to a fantastic community support and very successful Kickstarter, we forked XenServer to deliver a fully Open Source turnkey hypervisor. And this is just a start!

We were also with Xen developers to celebrate this anniversary, during the Open Source Summit in Scotland. It is always great to talk and work with Xen contributors!

This is also the occasion to announce that XCP-ng is committed to contribute to the Xen project. Details and big news will be given in the next weeks, so hang on ;)
