Testing XCP-ng on HPE ProLiant
Vates and HPE collaboration
Since 2019, Vates is part of the HPE startup program, this program grants us privileged relation with HPE team and thanks to that, we recently got access to the Customer Innovation Center to test and validate XCP-ng on an HPE ProLiant machine.
This datacenter is a great way for HPE's customers to discover new solutions for their own infrastructure, and XCP-ng is now one of the solution displayed there. In the future, we are aiming to validate our solution on more and more HPE hardware.
Now, to the test!
The HPE Proliant DL380
This time HPE has given us access to their latest Proliant line, the Generation 10 - a DL380 specifically. We'll install XCP-ng on it and take it for a spin.
Thanks to iLO 5, HPE's brand of IPMI, remote installation of XCP-ng was quite easy. Through the HTML5 remote console I was able to mount the install ISO and run through the installer with no issues, and no plugins or java to install:
Looking through iLO 5, you realize quickly it's a very powerful IPMI implementation. You can even view temperatures throughout the physical areas of the server in a 3D graph:

I installed the system with an 8.1 ISO, then when 8.2 was released I used the easy yum upgrade method to update the system. After a reboot, the system is now on XCP-ng 8.2! 8.2 is our LTS release, so you can be assured it will be rock stable and supported well into the future. Let's have a look at the xen versioning:

Looking good! Next, I used the simple XOA deploy page to deploy a fresh XOA VM on the host. After punching in the host info and clicking deploy, less than 5 minutes later I had an XOA instance ready to use. logging into it, I can see our HPE host with plenty of resources to spare:
