Xen Summit 2025, Talks & Pizza

Event Aug 26, 2025

The Xen Summit is just around the corner (taking place September 15–17 in San Jose) and once again the Xen community is gathering to share progress, ideas, and a vision for the future of the project. This year, Vates will play a major role, both on stage and in design discussions, bringing topics that directly impact the evolution of XCP-ng and the entire Vates stack. And for those who can’t make the trip, we’ve got something special planned back at our HQ in Grenoble.

🐼 The event

This year’s Xen Summit 2025 will take place at AMD’s San Jose campus (formerly Xilinx). It’s the annual rendezvous for the Xen community, gathering maintainers, board members, developers, and users from all corners of the ecosystem. Whether you’ve been contributing code for years or you’re just starting to explore Xen, it’s the best opportunity to meet the community in person.

Xen Summit
Xen Summit is our annual event where the community connects with experts, discovers innovations, and shapes the future of virtualization.

The structure follows a proven recipe from previous editions. Mornings are dedicated to presentations: project updates, technical deep dives, live demos, and success stories that highlight how Xen is being used today and where the technology is heading.

In the afternoons, the focus shifts to design discussions. Attendees propose and vote on the topics they’d like to see explored, and the most requested ones are tackled in open, town hall–style sessions. It’s a collaborative space where questions, feedback, and new ideas directly influence the project’s roadmap.

🪐 Vates participation

This year, we’re bringing a strong presence to the Xen Summit. Nearly 20% of the entire agenda will be covered by Vates engineers, which says a lot about how deeply we’re shaping the project’s future.

Here’s what we’ll be presenting:

  • Xen & XCP-ng in the Datacenter: State of the Union – Olivier (myself)
  • Running Linux with AMD SEV on Xen – Teddy
  • Q35 Next Steps – Thierry
  • Xen Toolstack: Past and Future – Anthony

And it doesn’t stop at the talks. Our team will also co-lead several design sessions on critical topics like nested virtualization, TSC handling, and performance improvements.

All of this matters because every contribution we make upstream eventually strengthens the Vates Virtualization Stack. Whether it’s enabling advanced security features, improving hardware support, or optimizing performance, the work we do at the Summit directly translates into a more capable, future-proof platform for XCP-ng and Xen Orchestra users.

🍕 Our own Xen Summit stream party

Of course, not everyone can (or wants to) fly to the US. That’s why we’re also hosting a small watch party at Vates HQ in Grenoble!

The teammates who aren’t on site in San Jose will gather at the office to follow the Summit live, with the essentials: beers, pizzas, and good company. 🍕🍺

If you’re part of the Xen community and happen to be around Grenoble, you’re very welcome to drop by and join us. We’ve got a few seats available: just reach out and let us know! 😄
