Ubuntu 18.04 desktop graphics console not working.
-
Hi guys,
we have just been trying to get an 18.04 minimal install running under XO to display a console so that we can connect to some internal web sites from with in our management network without exposing it to the outside world.
The install runs happily, using the ubuntu template and gets to completion happily.
When rebooted however, the console hangs on, what looks to be the last command before starting X and no graphics login is ever seen.
Changing to VT2 gets me to a text login which I can use etc to get into the machine, but that's not much use to me in this case.
Are there any issues using a graphics screen under XO? Am I missing something?
Ta
Peter.

@pnunn you can try to switch the VM graphics in the advanced tab in XO
-
That is set to vga with 8MB.
-
@pnunn and did you try to change it?

There is no Ubuntu 18.04 template and while the 16.04 one works for installation it doesn't seem to work for running.
Re-install using the "Other media" template instead. That'll work.

Turn default template platform:viridian parameter to true, and install again works fine. Or changing original Ubuntu 18.04 desktop VM platfrom:viridian to true is also effected.

@lcy985a Evening, is this a magic setting I cannot see?
-
@faceplant It is xen-api vm paramter. i fount it is a problem of ubuntu 18.4 grub always set gfxpayload = keep, but VM gdm can't with it. and set gfxpayload = text or do not set it in /boot/grub/grub.conf. gdm works OK.
