Hi
Question about backup - recently I've found soft from my Polish firends that creaded vProtect - their soft uses CBT for backup. Any plans to use this feature in xoa ?
-
We are using something that was here before CBT (VHD delta). It works well and we don't need CBT, because it doesn't bring anything new for XO.
-
OK.
Another question about using vProtect alongside with XO - which already covers the rolling snaps and CR's - is it safe - from your perspective - to use vProtect alongside with XO in regards of BCP ? Do You see any contraindications to use vProtect on xcp/xo site?
-
What's your use case for using vProtect?
-
"extenal" backup of all vms to vProtect's local storage
-
I'm not sure to get it. You mean backup outside your own infrastructure?
-
@olivierlambert no - vprotect would be located on the same network (or separate dedicated network) on which xcp-ng is. "External" in this case is another phisycal location. But that's not the problem. The problem and concerns are about consistency of vm when another soft will "glue" to the vm and create another snapshot on the machine. Another soft that use complete different mechanism that xo/a for backup.

I need to understand the use case first In short, why you want to use both solutions in parallel.

Becouse xoa backup is painfully slow... it's good for CR but for full vm backup, let's say it's unsuitable... on my 1Gb lan, full vm backup (DR or Copy) from xcp1 to xcp2 I have about 10-15Mb/s. This is the topic I've asked many times on this forum. And guys from vProtect brag that the speed im much better on their soft due to CBT not vhd delta - which I'll check in a while.
