Backup to shared storage
-
Is it possible to backup to a shared storage? I have disks from a SAN and would like to use that to backup the VMs.
Here is my setup.
2 hosts running XOCE, both have fiber channel cards
2 SAN servers (1 will be hosting live VMs, the 2nd will be for backups)I would like to attach the SAN storage directly as shared storage and write directly to there.
I should add I would like to use a delta backup for this

@TheLostKos Have you install an XOA or an XO from sources and try making backup?

@Darkbeldin
Yes, I have to set up a "New file system remote" for a destination to back up to.Digging in it looks like I have to create a virtual disk on the 2nd SAN and attach it to XO, attaching it to XO. It would need to be a raw format since I'll need more than 2 TB of space. Not ideal but I will be testing it soon

@TheLostKos It's not recommended to do your backup on the same storage that you are using as SR.
Because if you loose the storage you also loose the backup. -
@Darkbeldin
As mentioned in my original post I have 2 SAN, 1 is for VMs and another for backup. the backup SR is on the backup SAN. -
@TheLostKos You don't do backup on SR normally because it's linked to the host, you use an NFS share or a samba share already setup.

@Darkbeldin In my network NFS and Samba shares would be a VM also on the same host so I would be in the same boat as before
