Continue (vs restart) an interrupted backup
-
My senior coworker was curious of the roadmap / timeline of adding the ability to automatically continue a backup where it left-off when interrupted. Do they expect the code to be difficult or is much of it already in an api such as XAPI. Is it weeks, months, or years away?
This is because a large backup that was "Interrupted" due to long power outage or other issues, can mess up our backup schedule when it has to start over when it was nearly done! So we would love to be able to have it pickup from where it stopped vs starting it from the beginning -
@pctechs Hi,
This is one of our next feature, no timeframe at the moment but it's coming soon. -
@Darkbeldin Thank you for the reply!
-
@Darkbeldin I did not see anything about continuing interrupted backups in the docs. is there any update on this?
-
@rjt The retry for backup have been added to XOA but not direct retry during backup.
-
@Darkbeldin Does it require ChangeBlockTracking?
The wording after clicking Interrupted backup, is "Restart failed backup", not "Continue interrupted Backup". It takes another snapshot also instead of continuing the sending of the existing snapshot.
Is there a particular version of XOA required? -
With classical export (ie VHD and without NBD) you cannot "resume" a backup. Now it's possible (technically with NBD) but it's not done (yet). But we improved a lot the retry vs the original backups in VHD.
