HPE ML350 G11 - Fan at high speed - Agentless Management (AMS)
-
Hi,
HPE ML350 G11 Server;
All fan running at high speed. Installing AMS would solve this problem, but there are dependency errors.
error: :
libjson-c.so.4()(64bit) is needed by amsd-3.5.0-1803.25.rhel8.x86_64
librpm.so.8()(64bit) is needed by amsd-3.5.0-1803.25.rhel8.x86_64
librpmio.so.8()(64bit) is needed by amsd-3.5.0-1803.25.rhel8.x86_64
libstdc++.so.6(GLIBCXX_3.4.20)(64bit) is needed by amsd-3.5.0-1803.25.rhel8.x86_64
libstdc++.so.6(GLIBCXX_3.4.21)(64bit) is needed by amsd-3.5.0-1803.25.rhel8.x86_64How can I install the dependency's?
Many thanks for help.

@AndyK I ran into the same problem on some new DL320 Gen 11s...if you log into the HP portal they have a AMS RPM for XenServer, you can install that on XCP-NG without issue.

@flakpyro
Thank you so much!systemctl status amsd
amsd.service - Agentless Management Service daemon
Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/amsd.service; enabled; vendor preset: enabled)
Active: active (running) since Sun 2024-08-18 20:15:22 CEST; 14s ago
Main PID: 5791 (amsd)
CGroup: /system.slice/amsd.service
└─5791 /sbin/amsd -fUnfortunately the fan are still at 78%
It may to do with my previous things to try to calm the fan down.
curl --request PATCH --url 'https://<iLO address>/redfish/v1/Chassis/1/Thermal/' --user '<iLO Username>:<password>' --header 'content-type: application/json' --insecure --data '{"Oem": {"Hpe": {"FanPercentAdjust": 50}}}'
Will reboot the server and see.
Thanks again. -
@AndyK I have had to sometimes do an iLO reset (reboot) to make it calm the fans down after installing. Its weird my gen 10s on ESXi never needed anything installed to prevent the fans from screaming but on these Gen 11s i tried various linux distro and xcp-ng and the fans were always loud without the daemon installed in the OS.

Hi!
AMS 3.3.0 for xenserver8 work well with DL380 G10.
-
@AndyK Are you running an up to date BIOS and iLO5 firmware for the Gen 11?
It’s recommended to running the latest BIOS for the hardware, along with a minimum of iLO 5 firmware version 1.43. Pair this with the above version 3.3.0 or higher of AMS.
@flakpyro This may help you too if you’re on the same hardware currently.
Though the work being done to better integrate XCP-ng, likely may in the future do away with the need for software like AMS on HPE hardware.

I am currently running "amsd-3.6.0-1867.26.xenserver8.x86_64.rpm" on my DL360 Gen 11 servers. It's been working well!
Its also worth mentioning i had no luck with the newer amsd rpms as they have dependency errors. I am assuming just because the dom0 OS is CentOS 7 based and somewhat dated. I reached out to my HP rep about if the xenserver packages will continue to see updates but never heard back. Having to deal with a daemon like this to keep fan speeds under control will definitely be taking into account with this years server refreshes considering Dell and Lenovo do not have this requirement.

HPE AMS and hp-ams have historically also been required with smartctl to get drive health data into iLO along with certain health and metrics data.
Depending on where you live you may have options like 2CRSi, Scan, Novatech or other smaller brand options. Not just companies like HPE, Dell and Lenovo!

Edit: i found a link to the RPM: https://downloads.linux.hpe.com/repo/mcp/XenServer/8/x86_64/current/amsd-3.6.0-1867.26.xenserver8.x86_64.rpm
