Looking for a temporary test host with a nVIDIA GPU
-
Nvidia products aren't cheap⦠We'd like to test on non-consumer grade cards.
-
Note that in the context of this call for a temporary test host, a consumer-grade GPU is enough. But for our lab we have other requirements
-
If someone can help me get a hold of said nvidia GPU that stormi wants, I can let xcpng team access the R730xd server I've been setting up all week and let him do whatever he needs on it. I've only got a bunch of nvidia 1070 gpus
-
Hi. Any nVIDIA GPU is OK for the tests we need to do.
-
@stormi
Would a Nvidia Quadro K420 help?
https://www.nvidia.com/content/dam/en-zz/Solutions/design-visualization/quadro-product-literature/13720_DS_NV_Quadro_K420_Aug25_US_NV_HR.pdfI believe I've got an extra lying around.
-
That would help yes
-
If you guys cover the shipping, I can just donate one and not need it back. I'm pretty sure we're about to retire about 10 more. Where would I be shipping this? I can pay the upfront if you guys refund when it arrives. PM probably works better to work out details.
-
Are you guys still interested?
-
Hi!
Can you tell me a bit more about those cards?
- Do they support PCI passthrough without driver modifications?
- Is vGPU working with it?
- How old are they?
-
I have a M60 if you need me to setup. It supports passthrough.

We found a way to test what we wanted to test on one host, but we'll need to test on more hosts, either now or when we'll release the beta. The test would be: install the 8.2 beta and check that the host starts correctly, with the XAPI reachable from XO.
-
I have a test host right now with a GeForce GT730. Happy to use it as a test. I have been trying to get this darn NVIDIA to do passthrough so that I can run Folding@Home on a VM (using Docker I might add!!!), but the passthrough has not been successful so far, since it is not a commercial GPU.
-
You need modified Nvidia drivers in the VM to make it work
-
So I hear. But don't know where to look @olivierlambert . That said I'm more than happy to contribute what I can to the XCP-NG project. DM me
-
I think you can find it on GitHub, I don't remember but I googled a bit about the error returned by the driver in the VM and found the patch
-
Thanks. Did you still need a test bed for the next version of XO?
-
For the tests we had a need for 1 week ago, it's now fine, however I'll probably update this thread once we have an ISO image that can be tested by users that have such hardware. Note: it's not about using the GPU itself, but simply about making sure that the hypervisor works well with the changes we made to replace the not-built-by-us
gpumon
tool whose absence would make XCP-ng 8.1 unbootable (as we sadly found out after the release) with a dummy one built by us. -
No worries. Happy to help!

It's been reported the patch is working on Xen, but I couldn't get it to work on XCP
-
Are you sure we are talking about the same patch?
