I have a VM, of which I have taken a snapshot. I then want to create a new VM from that snapshot. But when I click the button that says "create a new VM" in Xen Orchestra it actually creates a template, and not a VM. The problem is that the template takes up loads of space, and then there is not enough space left to create the VM.

Is there a way of going direct from Snapshot to VM (as the button would suggest)? Or have I missed something obvious somewhere?

So you are using a thick provisioned storage. Any snapshot will create a base copy, but also an active disk (which will be the total size of the disk).

You can't cheat on that. Transforming a snapshot into a VM will create a new active drive that will use the total size of the disk.
