Currently, there is a concurrency setting for backup jobs. However, it is only how many VMs to backup at the same time.

I think being able to have more granular options would be helpful. For example, being able to specify per host, so that you could do multiple backups at once without bogging down a particular host. The same with doing snapshots vs transfers.

      Thanks.

@CJ keep in mind XOA is what handles the backups, not the hosts, so XOA would be the bottleneck in many cases. What I mean is that say you only want 2 per host to backup at the same time, chances are XOA would still be the limiting factor not the host performance, usually hosts don't get bogged down by those operations too much either unless it's a fairly weak host.

Even my older hosts in my lab wouldn't have an issue with moving a good number of VMs around for example, as long as the drives can keep up.

Still, more control is almost always better.

@planedrop Agreed. But currently my hosts have 2.5G while my NAS has 10G. I can move XO to have 10G as well, which would allow me to transfer at the full 2.5G from each host.

Even if I don't do that, right now I have the concurrency set low in order to get good transfer speeds, but I would set it higher for the snapshots as I'm using local storage.

@CJ Gotcha, I see, yeah either way I think having more control over backups would be useful, never really a downside to that haha.
