XOA is the pre-built appliance from Vates. XO is the open source project, and you can follow these official instructions to build it from source.

Note 1: You don't install it directly in Dom0. Instead you create a Linux VM (Debian, Ubuntu, or whatever) and install it there.

Note 2: If you look around, there are multiple user created and maintained scripts that allow you to automate the instructions from the above link.

I have the feeling this confusion is the core of the initial issue.

@olivierlambert no it's not.. I have NOT tried this on the host. The issues i brought up are another thing entirely.

I don't say you did try, but the confusion itself might be the problem.

@danp yeah i REALLY do not want to setup another vm that has to be maintained PLUS the XOA inside it..hence the dom0 question. so the short answer is no...i cannot use the host to build XOA from source..:)

so if i want to build from source I have to setup a vm inside of the host and then use that vm to build from source...okies..not what I wanted but it's the answer..:)

@olivierlambert nope there's no confusion in my issues...i know EXACTLY how the issues started and i have NOT tried building from source. My issues are with the pre approved quick install of XOA...not building XOa from source..

What was the exact issue(s) then? Eager to understand what caused your trouble 🙂

@olivierlambert as i detailed in our email conversation:
once i deploy XOA on the host. The username and password i set for the xoa vm do not work. The defaults have been removed. I wind up having to ssh in..reset the credentials..then I can log in. Another issue that has cropped up is the xoa vm doesn't start automatically at the host boot.
I've run vmware esxi on this box without troubles. I've run Hyper-v on this machine without issues. I am not saying xcp-ng is garbage..but I am running into issues that I think should NOT be present. I am going to be slicking the host completely(again) and start over and document step by step what I am doing. If you spot a flaw..feel free to let me know...:)

Don't you think if it was the same problem for everyone we wouldn't have thousands of emails/tickets about this? It's possible something went wrong at some point, but without any way to reproduce it, we can't blame anyone 🤷

Regarding auto boot, check you have "Auto power on" enable in XO advanced tab for XO VM.

@olivierlambert i am currently nuking the host. I will document everything i do..right here on the forums..so in the event I am screwing up(which is highly likely) i'll take my licks. If not then hopefully you will believe me when i say something isn't right..:)

It's not a matter of believing, it's a matter of providing a way to reproduce the issue 😉 It's really hard to fix something if:

                          • we aren't aware of the issue
                          • we can't reproduce it
