Export/Import VM between 8.1 and 7.5 versions
-
Hello. Please could somebody help how to migrate vm from 8.1 to 7.5
I've done: xe template-export to xva file, at the 8.1 xcp-ng server
but when I've tried to import this xva have error:MPORT_ERROR: [ INTERNAL_ERROR: [ Stream_vdi.Failure("Expected to find an inline checksum, found file called: Ref:120/00000000.xxhash") ]Looks like new hash mechanism is using and avoid to restore VM. Please help me how to move that VM.

Hi,
You can never import an XVA exported from a more recent host to an older one. Only the other way around (older to newer)
The alternative is to use XO and delta backup (or Continuous Replication) to restore on the older host.

@olivierlambert IS XOCE support move vm from older to newer versions?

You can't live migrate a VM from a newer to an older version, that's an XCP-ng thing, not related to Xen Orchestra.

@ivan I asked almost the same question some time ago (it was 8.2 to 7.5).
Don't try to mess around:
- Install XOA/XOCE
- Connect it to the 2 pools
- Create a remote for you backup
- Backup the VM to that remote (8.1 Pool)
- Restore the VM (to the 7.5 Pool)
- That should work without an issue
There is certainly another way, but XOA is your golden hammer, use that one, instead of the rusty shovel next to it. It will make your life so much easier.
