Stupid question - do you typically host Xen Orchestra ON your XCP-ng host, or elsewhere?
-
I've felt like this was a hole in my configuration for a while, but given that I only have one host I haven't found it to be a huge problem. Usually if the host is down, I'm standing at the console doing a system upgrade, so virtualizing XOA on the actual XCP-ng machine is all right. Lately I considered trying to put XOA on something standalone, but I wasn't sure if it was worthwhile. Any thoughts?

Either way works. Like you, I only have a single host, and I also have XO virtualized. If needed, you can always SSH into the host and use
xeto perform some action. -
As I'm a dinosaur and worked with the Windows Management Tool long before XOA was around, I know it's always there as a backup for the minimal tasks AND I'm proficient on the command line as well.
The team is working on an onboard solution:
https://xcp-ng.org/docs/management.html#xo-liteIMHO, I wouldn't dedicate real hardware to a simple task as XOA.
In my setup, I have two pools which are connected on a network level, so I have 1 XOA running on each pool, in case of dire need (which I did a couple weeks ago).

I run XOce in a docker-compose container on my windows 10 laptop (a fast setup).
But to just get things done xxx-center is the tool. -
I am using a Thinclient for my XCP Servers. Real small and cheap (if it is used) HP T620 with a 64G M2 SSD and 4 GRam Quadcore AMD CPU. To backup some VM i use a external USB3 HDD. It is running very nice and smoth. Power is between 5Watt an 20Watt excluding the USB Harddrive.
My coutumer had mostly two Servers and a Thin client.
my own Thinclient is used as a server for FHEM Homeautmatisation
