Technical requirements for XOA for backup.
-
I created a Bare metal XOA server. I want to use it for backup. Tell me if the backup speed from my XCP-NG servers will depend on the processor power, the throughput capacity of my network card in the XOA server?
-
Any specific reason to use a XO on bare metal? You won't have a huge gain to do it.
-
@vadimushka The backup speed will always depend to some degree on the CPU sped, but probably more importantly on the storage I/O capabilities. Making sure the CPU and memory are not saturated can be checked by running "iostat -x" during the process to see how such resources are being strained.
-
The biggest bottleneck right now is the VHD export speed on XCP-ng/XenServer. We did some test internally, and we can do a lot better using less CPU in the process. Stay tuned, this should be around in end of Q3/early Q4

@olivierlambert Will it be necessary to update xcp-ng for this, or will it be enough to update xoa? Where can I read about this update?
-
No need to update XCP-ng, we don't want to introduce a dedicated agent. It will rely on another mechanism.
We'll publish about it before the end of this summer
