      Hey guys,
      I have a question.
why nobody install and use Centos 9? Is centos 7 better than centos9?
I searched all forum and I found nothing about a Centos 9 Virtual machine in xcp-ng! why?

      Thanks

When IBM/RedHat "killed" CentOS, the rest of the world took a hint and left. Companies and projects left CentOS in droves as the future of their products were in jeopardy due to the loss of CentOS.

At this point, the damage is done.

CentOS stream is probably more deployed than we can think (people not talking about it doesn't mean it's not there).

However, since @JamesG said, the new controversial project direction made the community switching to other distros. And since this is a community forum here, it's logical to not see a lot of people proudly claiming to use it ๐Ÿ™‚

That's my point of view, I was a fan of CentOS.
CentOS was a good project, that was until RedHat decided to turn it into Fedora with a different name.
The team that worked on CentOS is now working on another good project called Rocky Linux.
This is the reason why CentOS "disappeared" from the discussions.

              Thanks for your answers. ๐Ÿ™‚
So, from a technical view, If I want to Install Centos in XCP-ng right now and continue using it for a few more years, in your opinion, Is it better to install Centos 7 or Centos 9?
Is it even possible to install Centos 9 on XCP-ng as I see no template for that in virtual machines ?

I don't know what CentOS 9 is like, I've never tested or installed it.
Centos 7 is quite stable, but over time it will fall behind, it only receives security updates.
To be able to install version 9 of Red Hat, Rocky Linux, CentOS, AlmaLinux, Oracle Linux, etc. ( Red Hat based OS ) you can use v8 templates.
For example, I use Rocky Linux 8 templates for VMs with Rocky Linux 9, but I also used Red Hat 8 template and it's ok.

Hey there! Good question about CentOS 9. While CentOS 7 is a well-established and widely used OS, CentOS 9 is a newer release and may not have as much support yet. Plus, since CentOS 7 has Extended Lifecycle Support, many folks are sticking with that for now. But it's worth keeping an eye on CentOS 9, as it's got some cool new features and improvements that could be a good fit for your future projects. Just keep in mind that CentOS 7 will reach its end of life, so eventually, you'll want to make the switch to a newer version. But for now, it's all about finding what works best for you.

@poltushima There technically is no CentOS 9, only CentOS stream. CentOS died a premature death when they pulled support for version 8 in 2021. We moved all of our workloads to rocky Linux and haven't looked back.

Stream is basically a rolling beta and not something I would use unless you're just mucking around with it.
