Shared SR between two pools?
-
Hello
I currently have 2 different hosts, one AMD and one Intel in my homelab. I understand that live migration between these two hosts is not possible but it possible to have 2 pools (IE, AMD-Pool and Intel-Pool) and have a common NFS share mounted in each pool? This would allow me to do cold migrations between the two hosts quickly due to them having shared storage. (Power off, Migrate, power on) I know this is possible with ESX but i am not as familiar with XCP-NG/Xen Orchestra yet.

@flakpyro Maybe warm migration between host with different CPU is an option for you (also see this topic on live migration). I doubt that you can share the same SR (with the same UUID) between different pools.

I figured that might be a long shot! Warm migration looks like a solid option.
Is there anything stopping me from having both hosts in the same pool then just to gain the shared storage functionality?

It isn't possible AFAIK to have both AMD and Intel processors in the same pool.

It is possible to have both AMD and Intel in the same pool. My homelab had it until recently when I upgraded RAM and retired the optiplexes just recently.
Live migration will not work, however, shared storage will work. You just have to shutdown the VM and "Start on" the specific host. In the VM Advanced tab.
