XO Lite - network management "coming soon"
-
I attempted to create/manage networks for a xcp-ng pool via XO Lite, it seems features to accomplish this are not yet available. Is there an ETA on when network management will be available via XO Lite ? I am hoping to replace xcp-ng center by using XO Lite instead. Thanks

Hi,

My company is desperately looking to get away from VMware because of the predatory pricing. I showed my boss XCP-ng because it looks a lot like ESXi. He looked into the software and asked why XO lite has been "coming soon" for 5 years now.
What should I tell him?

It may be help to actually look at Xen Orchestra as XO Lite is targeted at basic functions. Anyway network creation is present in Xen Orchestra 5 and/or 6. Maybe more extensive, but will allow for better ACL (via RBAC) capabilities.

The pieces are coming together itβs a new software XO Lite, the teams at Vates are growing more of XO Lite is being developed and tested. Though Xen Orchestra is a more suitable base for a business environment, with multiple departments and teams, due to XO Lite only using and allowing the use of root account authentication. The root account of XO Lite refers to the XCP-ng host server administrator account - full access!

We prioritized Network creation in Xen Orchestra as they are mostly Pool-level objects (supposedly with multiple hosts), but we will rework on XO-Lite soon, so you could perform all basic actions as well from XO-Lite.

The same as @john.c and also XO Lite tends to be less a priority because less critical than the full fledged XO (the priority is to replace entirely XO 5 in the next releases).
Why you would need XO Lite outside basic actions? It's mostly meant to bootstrap XO itself and do basic operations (which is already the case, at least with many basic features already). Initially, the goal hasn't moved: replacing XenCenter. We are moving in that direction, but again, I think it's more important to get XO 6 finished first.
I'm curious to understand more the use case of XO Lite in your context @unreal-shizzle ?
