What is miss in XO and What i like and What I like to have ;-)
-
Hello
I hope it is okay to send it in the part of the forum.
First most of my installations are smal or very small ...
the biggest had 10 hardware Servers
So my XO is running on very small extra hardware
mostly on a HP ThinClient HP620 (16G SSD, 4G DDR3 1GBit Nick, 2*USB 3.0)
This is my first contact to XOIn the past i use the Center via VPN remoutely
What i miss is the infrastruckture view.
What i like is updating the XCP and Xen servers...
the overview over all servers in the Dashboard
(i miss that in the Center)
and the Backup function. (but i hat to tray this later when i had my RTFM work ready)What i like to have in XO!
first mounting/umounting a external drive for the Backup (including a external NAS)
Why? Working stlye is form far or remoutly. Some easy hands on word is doing by my custumor. So they can change the external USB drives or the NAS (for export the VM or Backups).Mostly i miss a localy export function. When i export some VM the exort is a download in my browser. So all the datas must transported over VPN to my PC. Thats very slow (i try a 10 mBit DSL connection (upload). 1.5 GBte (comperssed file) VM needs 2h (for tat it was fast). So it will be nice to store it on a HDD or NAS on the XO serverside, that can be mutch faster (with the new compessing).
It will be nice to have a look on the health of the hardware, now i find only the RAID status (i konw it can be complicated). Things like Harddrive, Temperature, FANs, UPC etc...)
I think its there but in didnt find it is scriting ..
Why ? Some of my VMs had special funtions like a AD/LDAP server. So first i had to start this VM than the File srever , Mail and... Very often we need a spical orer to start an to reboot the "pool". The next reason is UPC. I will be nice to drive down servers by function ( lill bit like starting the "pool") with this we can save energie. The last in my example is the AD/LADAP and PBX server...Thanks for support and your help I like XCP-NG and XO
So "we" need some killer Apps to be better and VMs in the small Biz can be a big market -
- Local export function for backup: that's because how XenServer/XCP-ng work. It can't push data, it must be pulled by something (XO here). We are working on XO Proxies to avoid useless data round trip.
- If you download a VM somewhere without going with your browser, just use backup features and target a "local" remote. That's it.
- Scripting: there IS an API inside Xen Orchestra, you can also use
xo-cli

I will try it soon more like XO-CLI
