xe-linux-distribution

There's already a PR upstream: https://github.com/xenserver/xe-guest-utilities/pull/97
-
@olivierlambert Ahh, thanks for the heads up on that
-
@olivierlambert Any idea when this will be pulled in to XCP-ng installed tools ISO? Just curious when you will pull in as the version included in XCP-ng still doesn't recognize Rocky Linux though the referenced PR was merged beginning of last month. I am not sure if you can pull that update in or if you are going to wait for them to release another minor release before something like that.
Rocky Linux 8.4 just went GA and I am sure many are ready to upgrade their CentOS 7/8 servers to Rocky Linux 8.4 but the linux agent won't start/install on Rocky Linux.
Thanks for any timeline/info you can share on this.

That's a question for @stormi

This should be released soon now. I see that you found the testing thread.
-
@onyxfire I've migrated all but two of my CentOS 8 VMs to Rocky this week, and tried my hand at building an updated xe-linux-distribution RPM but the resulting package didn't seem to be recognized in XOA. It's on my list to try and suss that out today. Looking forward to official packages not built by yours truly.

@donsizemore Just install the ones from xcp-ng-testing? They're going to be released officially on monday, but you can probably use them a bit earlier.

Hi folks,
I seem to still be having issues with this. I am on rocky 8.4 and am installed by adding the EPEL Repository. I am by no means an expert here. I'm trying to get this new distro rolling for my college lab servers. Thanks for your help!
-
@cole-maxwell1 It's likely that the package in EPEL doesn't contain the changes that would make it recognize Rocky Linux. You can install the tools from the guest tools ISO provided by XCP-ng instead. See https://xcp-ng.org/docs/guests.html#linux
-
@stormi Thanks for your response. My issue turned out to be I didn't have the latest patch for XCP-ng hosts pulled down. After updating my hosts to get the latest guest tools ISO things worked for me via that method.

Updated xcp-ng-pv-tools on my one XCP 8.2 server. (We have mostly (citrix)7.1 and (xcp)7.6 because of hardware RAID limitations)
Found the ISO located at /opt/xensource/packages/iso. (verison 8.2.0-9)
Moved this to my local workstation, and then to my ISO-repo file server.
Went to my XCP 7.6 server, and then to the Rocky Linux 8.4 VM i just set up.
Removed the EPEL xe-guest-utilities-latest package. (7.21.0-1)
Mounted the XCP ISO from the ISO-repo and installed the guest tools from that. (7.20.0-9)Agent detected! and the service seems to run without error.
