Nice !! So it is possible without any conflicts ?
I used to move somes vms disk with xencenter (or xcp-ng center) and i had to change in Cloudstack DB, the uuid of disk

Can i achieve a backup protecting me agaist a disk array failure with XOA Starter version ?

I would be careful and answers: "it depends".

XO is using the same API than XCP-ng Center or xe CLI: XAPI.

You have to ask Cloudstack guys what kind of operations can be done outside their platform that's not causing issues.

I can tell that backup won't change anything, it's only creating snapshot and export them. We have a good relationship with main Cloudstack contributors (Shapeblue), so feel free to ask them about that, if there's a doubt on what we do on our side, we can answer 🙂

@kurushi9000 i am using this for almost 2 years. CS is for managing owners of vms, creation of networks, vpcs etc and XOA is for admins.

For backup you can use snapshot options of CS. Sometimes i download volumes of vms and store them.

It is not so easy to use XOA for backup because CS uses custom names of vms and sometimes names are changing

@alexanderk XOA is not using names to match VMs to backup 🙂 (UUID in normal mode, tags for dynamic)

@olivierlambert uuid is different when you shutdown a vm from cs and boot it up again. had this issue an hour ago.
When you shutdown a vm from cs it is disappeared from XOA

If it disappear it means it's not in XAPI DB anymore. IDK how Cloudstack is handling this.

Anyway, you can use tags then?

@olivierlambert will try to test. But i suppose it won't work because if the vm is disappeared the same will happen to tags also.

                        Hello guys,

with CS when shutting down a VM, the XCP DB is emptied of the entry concerning the relations with ressources (disk, name, metrics of vm).
These informations are stored in CS Database in place of keeping it on Xcp host

But normally values which are not changing are the uuid of disk of the vm
Also if XOA realise a backup of a disk, it could be possible to play again the vm

@AlexanderK have you succedded to test with XOA ?

@olivierlambert is it possible to test the backup feature with XOA before buying the licence ?

                        Regards, Benoit

Sure @kurushi9000 there's a free trial exactly for that kind of cases 🙂
