pretty puzzled here as I cant find a lot around restoring (a lot about backups though).
The server running my xcp-ng lab instance has died. Drive are ok, and I had some backups done. However, I cant see to restore them
I have few directories with data like:

      -rwxrwxrwx 1 1026 users 22312 Mar 31 2021 20210331T190930Z.json
      -rwxrwxrwx 1 1026 users 12005985792 Mar 31 2021 20210331T190930Z.xva
      -rwxrwxrwx 1 1026 users 36 Mar 31 2021 20210331T190930Z.xva.checksum

When I try to import the xva file (import / vm), the task fails with no clear log info.
I also have files: VMv2.compressed.xen that I created a while ago, not sure how.

Any hints as how to use these files ?

      Thanks,

          Hi,

You must import your backup with Xen Orchestra, not manually.

@olivierlambert thanks - I've tried via XO and import vm but no joy - is that the correct method ?
I seem to get better results with cli: xe vm-import filename=xe vm-import filename=...

but not all my vms are succesful this way

Can you be more specific on the "no joy"? Any error? Restore must go through XO.

No joy is to say that the VM doesnt get imported and I dont really get an error - I go to the tasks and dont see more than in the previous post.

However, I've just upgraded to the latest xen-orchestra docker image, xo-server 5.120.2 & xo-web 5.122.2 (xcp-ng is 8.3 beta) and it seems to be working better, at least via xe vm-import

Great product anyway, will keep on using it 🙂

Don't forget to always stay up to date to the latest commit as possible, because there's no support on older code for the version on Github 🙂
