      Hello,

Just installed XCP-ng on 2 hosts and would like to install XO from sources on the host, can anyone share the installation details to do so or a video/blog that may be available.

      Thanks

        Hi,

First, there's no "host", what you think is the host is a VM already, called the Dom0 (see https://docs.xcp-ng.org/#️-general-design).

Then, you shouldn't install anything inside the Dom0, it's meant to be an appliance. If you want to use XO, you have 2 options:

        1. Deploy the pre-configured VM called "XOA" (see https://xen-orchestra.com/docs/installation.html#xoa) with an easy deploy here: https://vates.tech/deploy/
        2. Install a VM yourself (eg on Ubuntu, Debian or your fav Linux distro) and then install XO from the sources on it (see https://xen-orchestra.com/docs/installation.html#from-the-sources

XOA Free is enough to "bootstrap" whatever you need (ie installing another VM), so my advice is to start first with XOA, even make a trial and then when you feel ready and for non-production usage, go install XO from the sources 🙂

olivierlambert Thanks for your quick response!

10-4 on Dom0 though from what I've seen on XOA, there are references to "hosts".

          Appreciate the help.

There's always a needed balance between simplicity and reality, so for new users, host is fine. But keep in mind everything is a VM in XCP-ng world, even the Control Domain (aka "Dom0") 🙂
