Threadripper TRX50 7960x....yaay/nay?

I'm currently running a couple Dell r730XD's but looking at modernizing with something a little more tailored to my needs, I only have about a dozen VM's but have some high performance needs (high frequency) on that smaller # of threads than your typical high density setup.
Given that, I'm leaning towards wanting to build a VM host on sTR5 socket AMD 7960x based setup. I've seen some people running threadrippers here successfully but not so much talk about the newer platform, looking for input on if we think this would work or can I not go down this road.

@sluflyer06 IIRC some people were having issues with XCP-ng 8.2.1 and AMD platforms, but their issues were resolved in 8.3. So if I recalled correctly, it's a good idea, but wait a few weeks for 8.3 to be released

I'm unsure if Threadripper is affected. But the EPYCs have a problem with networking speeds. And I'm quite sure they haven't found the root cause yet,

I assembled a Threadripper platform to make some tests at home, I have some hardware issues, but I could confirm or not the potential network VM to VM on the same host. But overall, it might not be a real problem in reality. I mean, our own production is fully EPYC based and that network being slower isn't a deal breaker for "regular usage" (and we are also doing progress in the investigation, so it might be solved in the future)

hmm, ok, I did read through that thread, seems like some kind of issue that's existed on every generation so i imagine there is a possibility of a single fix that cures it for everyone.
I checked out Intel's latest workstation stuff and it not interesting or competitive at all with AMD at the moment. (the high end server line is way out of budget)
Thanks for the reponses, I'll keep up on these threads and see what happens and also sounds like maybe it's not a deal breaker to begin with potentially.

@nick-lloyd The issues were the network performance issues, but hardly big enough of an issue to not go with AMD, we're just talking like maxing out at 7 gigabit speed wise.
Also may be worth noting to OP, I have 3 Threadripper systems running XCP-ng, 2 are on 8.2 and 1 is on 8.3, and they're all totally fine and have been very good machines.
