backup deleting manual snapshots
-
Now this is weird.
I created some snapshots before modifying some settings on some VM's. While I was testing stuff a scheduled (NBD+CBT) backup run.
After a while I wanted to revert to my snapshot and I realized that they were gone on some VM's (not all I snapshoted and that were backup up'ed). Only the respective delta snapshot remained.
What the heck???Xen Orchestra, commit 02f34
Master, commit c7ddf -
@manilx Tried to disable NBD/CBT and retried. Same issue.
A few VM's delete the manual snapshots right before the backup job (of this VM) finishes.?????

Hi,
You mean snapshots created "manually" right? XO will never remove those automatically, backup snaps are clearly "painted" and if they are not, they won't be removed

edit: you can check the audit log of XAPI (in the host /var/log) to try to check from where the snapshot removal was requested. If it's from XO, it doesn't tell if it was removed manually/by mistake or due to a bug.

@olivierlambert I created manually backups, yes.
And they WERE deleted by the delta backup, no doubt about that one. I followed the backup task and when it reached 99% I looked at the VM snapshots and I saw it disappearing, when the task completed (this on all affected VM's).
This happened on 3 of 10 VM's, repeatably.
I then created a test task and this did not happen.
So I recreated the task with all the same settings: All went OK, no snaps deleted. So I found a workaround to get going again.
I have the log files if it interests you to check for a bug but I'm not at ease to do it

Okay at least if you can provide a way to reproduce the issue with screenshots, we could probably try to see on our side, and that would be helpful

@olivierlambert If the issue turns up again.... It was a weird one!
As I deleted the previous backup jobs I can't repeat. Just had to move on.Perhaps someone else stumbles upon this and finds this thread......
I will report if it happens again (will try it wit the new backup)
