Regarding Disaster Recovery Backups: Can one store the full backups (VHD) on external medium (tape or disk) and restore them a couple years later?

We currently segregate our DR Backups, which are image backups, for long term offsite storage from our traditional backups which are file/folder backups using Bacula.

If you mean delta backups, as long you get all your files in the remote, you can restore them from a fresh Xen Orchestra, even on freshly installed XCP-ng hosts.

@olivierlambert Thanks. I notice the naming convention on the remote storage seems to align with the uuid of the VM. In the DR scenario does the directory structure on the remote have to get recreated to restore a VM from the VHD file?

You need to get the exact same structure ideally to not lose any data. But it's not a big deal, just copy/rsync whatever you like to the destination and that's it.
