I imagine this isn't out of the box available, but curious if anyone has had any luck in replicating bare metal servers to a XCP VM? I imagine this would need to happen from within the VM (wont be host to host).

You can do that with CloneZilla for example.

olivierlambert I could be wrong but with clonezilla the partition needs to be offline, we're trying to replicate a production baremetal to a VM as an ongoing basis

Aaah OK. Replicating like CR in XO, right?

olivierlambert yeah something similar, we have a prospective client with baremetal servers looking at creating a "DR" VMs with us, I imagine some agent or something would need to replicate this from within the VM. Getting some more info, was just wondering if anyone else has done something similar

In theory, like thinking on top of my head, an agent in the physical machine that will be able to replicate the VM files in the same format than the XO backup, with also the "machine metadata" (CPU, RAM etc.).

Then, if something goes wrong, you could restore a backup as a VM from the real machine.
