XO tree view
-
I realise it may come across as annoying. But 8.2 being out before xcp-ng Center support catching up has highlighted an issue for me.
I use XO for a lot of things. Especially the backups process. But it being the only option for admin of 8.2 has to be frank, frustrated me.
It is just my way of working. But I do everything from the xcp-ng Center tree view. Collapsed it shows my entire infrastructure then I can expand the list to show VMs on machines I'm interested in, and importantly do this on several machines at once, sometimes all of them, and see exactly what is going on.
This is harder in XO. All the information and functionality is there but much more hidden away on different screens and more difficult to get a quick view of what is going on.
I hope you take this as friendly feedback

Hi!
We are aware of that. The fact XCP-ng Center isn't ready isn't something we could do anything (as you know it's not a Vates supported project).
I think it might be easier to start from scratch on XO Lite and provide a tree view from there directly, than continuing to modify XO 5 just before we start tech work on XO 6 UI.
However, we can probably make some quick and dirty prototypes in XO 5 in a specific view, to learn about what's the best view you'd like (and others too).
Pinging @julien-f about those ideas.

I totally agree. And you need to know if the XO server is running and its address. I start xcpng-center just to find the XOce server. XOlite with tree-view allways running on Dom0 could be what we needs.

I agree with these guys above. Having a tree view seems like a no-brainer. It feels like its the industry standard (it should be if its not) for management GUI for hypervisors/VMs to be honest.

I agree, +1 for tree view.

I agree too. There yare two main reasons I use the Xcp-ng Center; the quick overview of performance, hosts and VMs and for exporting VM backups to my local computer . This always seem to fail when doing it from XOA.
And of course during times when I do not have XOA running.

@markhewitt1978 Hi, thank you for your feedbacks!
We are aware that this limitation bothers a lot of users and we have plan to address that in the next major version of XO.
XO 5 was already a major improvement over its predecessor because it allows viewing and handling a much bigger infra.
XO 6 will go further in this direction by introducing a tree view and the possibility to edit and handle many objects at the same time.

Thank you for explaining your plans. I am very eager to see the new XO 6! Perhaps a Christmas present for all of us?
I just realised I have one more "peeve" with XOA. That is the console view which does not work well with Swedish keyboard layout. For example pressing Alt-Gr+2 to get at-sign '@' doesn't work. It also crashes the keyboard input so it doesn't release the alt-key. This always works correctly in XCP-ng center. The problem is in both Linux and Windows guests.
