      Re: Stable channel update date

Hi, is the "latest" channel tested or more of a beta? ...or to ask differently: is it safe to assume "latest" will not take down a productive server farm, or would we have to stay on stable to get maximum protection from heart attacks? 😉

        Hi,

When using XOA, every release will be tested extensively. The main different is that stable got 1 extra month of feedback from around 30% of our total number of users.

So no, latest isn't a beta at all. A beta would be for example the master branch on the sources (since there's no release in there, it's a kind of perpetual beta).

It's an extra safety in case something slipped through our testing, because you have an extra month to realize there's a problem in some very specific cases. It's also useful for us when we want to debug a recent issue, we can tell the user to go back and forth to the 2 channels, to see if there's a diff.

Finally, at Vates, for our own production infrastructure: we rely on latest, because we want to immediately test the new features 🙂

@olivierlambert Thanks Olivier, perfect explanation and also good that there is a way back by switching the channel. Will live the "latest" life from here on out 🤙
