XCP-ng 8.2.1 refreshed installation ISO - better hardware support
-
Updated installer
We are in the last phase before publishing refreshed installation ISOs for XCP-ng 8.2.1: public testing.
It contains all the updates published since the release of XCP-ng 8.2.1 (and even a few more, which are currently in the testing repository). This includes all bug fixes, security fixes.
Most notably, the Xen fixes solve the buggy IOMMU handling on some AMD hardware, and bring compatibility with newer hardware in general.
With the help of @Andrew, we also added popular drivers in the homelab community, to support more network cards out of the box:
igc
driver (Intel I225/I226) andr8125
driver (Realtek 8125 and 8126).Last but not least, we added a driver for raid devices commonly found in the latest series of Dell servers.
More drivers, which are not included by default in the installer nor in XCP-ng, will also be made available as driver disks to load from the installer, very soon.
We now need your help testing the refreshed installation ISO.

@stormi Great. When will the new drivers be available? I really need to work on my lab. Mt backups are taking forever and I am sure the problem is not XCP-ng but rather how I installed. I started muy investigations but while playing/working on my lab I would like to update my drivers. I use 8.3b1, can I use the new drivers?
Merci pour votre excellent travail et votre passion est admirée

@marclachapelle We already provide a variety of updated drivers directly from our yum repositories. Here, the driver updates are included are meant to allow installation to proceed correctly on hardware where it would previously fail or require workarounds. These drivers were already accessible for integration into an existing XCP-ng installation.
I suggest to discuss your situation in a different thread.

@stormi Ah. I misunderstood that these drivers were not available with yum. My bad. For my backup issue it was only informational. Before discussing any further I need to do my homework and follow the troubleshooting guide and carefully look at this forum. And I need to gather data. I know my network is OK but my storage is another issue lollll. If I am really stuck and my homework is done then I will find the proper thread but so for far the bottleneck is me Thanks.

@stormi Updated 8.2.1 install ISO used on NUC11 Intel/i225 and ASRock AMD/r8125 happily. It's nice to see the built-in networks available and working.
A minor note to users, as expected during a NEW install, interface order may change as new interfaces may now be available because the drivers are available on the ISO. Other network drivers added after install show up as additional interfaces as before.

@stormi Refreshed 8.2.1 ISO installs on a Jasper Lake Celeron N5105 quad core mini PC with four Intel Ethernet I226-V. Supported link modes include 2500baseT/Full, unfortunately I do not have a switch for 2.5G speed tests.

@gskger Thanks for the feedback!
By the way I forgot to mention here that we published them officially: https://xcp-ng.org/blog/2023/12/11/updated-installer-for-xcp-ng-8-2-1/
The final ISOs are identical to the ones in the first thread, with a definitive name.
