I wonder if the backup (and restore) traffic is going through XO (on the management network) or does XO advise the xcp-ng host where the backup remote store (on the storage network) is, so that the traffic stays on the storage network? Read some articles on the XO forum and the internet, but did not get a clear picture on the recommended architecture.
-
@gskger as I can tell from my experience, backupdata goes into XO and is then written to the NFS share (that is mounted in XO). So your traffic passed your (virtual) network card twice. One time as XAPI-traffic and the other time as NFS-traffic.
If you have local storage in XO (if its a hardware server) or you have two network cards and the NFS server on a separate network, it should work a bit "faster"(TM)
-
@gskger Because XS/XCP-ng can't push the VM data directly (a HTTP handler is exposed ready to be fetched), XO has to pull it.
So it means data flows from XCP-ng to XOA, then from XOA to the remote.
To avoid useless round-trip for external DCs, we are planning to release backup proxies in end of Q1.

but tapes are a lill bit "old" styleHow are you going to mount these USB drives so XO so XO can backup to them?
Or are you going to have a cron job copy from you NFS share to these USB drives daily and perform a manual disk rotation?
-
Its a small company we will rotate them ervery morning. And a full Backup every Week. If XO ist fast every day full.
The job by semself with a cron job.
The new script will be waiting for a USB Drive with The Name Backup for the patrition. With cron the backup ist starting in the nigth, when its ready sync and umount.
restart the VMs.On the HA side will will take a snapshot and strore them.
Send a mail to a tec adress when its ready.
So anybody can change the USB Harddrive.

@DustinB Thx for your install script Orchsetra it was running perfect.
I am using a Thinclient from HP. It is a HP T610 4GByte DDR3 RAM, 16GByte SSD 2USB3.0 4USB2 and 1G Ethernet. CPU is AMD 64. The Box is fanless.
First i am installing a fresh Debian sketch 9.8 minimal with a Netinstall CD.I was a lill bit complicatet to erase the swap and expand the root file system.
Install and compilation of Ochsetra need 45 min.
Including the OS the fresh Ochestra need 3Gbyte HDD space ..
so first result it is running ..
USB Drives UPS and anything else later..
Why a so small Box ? There are only 4 Servers on the coutumers side.
and not so mutch VMs not more then 16 mostly small less then 50G diskspace ..
NFS makes no sence than .. -
4 = for?
Really? -
I'm also confused by all the numbers... makes the text unreadable

sorry for that
okay will change it
