    • RE: "Xenserver 8" patching

As far as I can tell, we get support directly from Citrix not 3rd parties.

I've been dealing with the same 3 or 4 folks in Xenserver and PVS support since I started at my company 10 years ago.

Citrix is one of the few vendors we have that we don't have much to complain about.

    • RE: "Xenserver 8" patching

I just wanted to follow up with the replies here:

      1. Yes, there is support on trial licenses! Dan is helping me out with my ticket.

      2. My company is a large corporation that uses Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops and Citrix Provisioning Services. As part of our "Premium Licensing" Citrix give us Xenserver for free. Xenserver also has the "PVS Accelerator" function which xcp-ng does not have. I had floated the idea of switching to xcp-ng at one point a few years ago when it was clear xcp-ng had become a superior version of the product. When you are getting something for $0, trying to convince a company to pay for the same thing doesn't make much sense.

Having said that, we also went through an exercise to see how much it would cost us to go to VMWare. That would have standardized us on a single hypervisor within our global company. Our team is the only one that uses Xenserver. Since everyone was "Broadcom'd" that ended pretty quickly.

I have been watching xcp-ng since it's inception and I have nothing but respect and accolades for the strides made by Vates to improve a product that Citrix has let languish. I am an OSS advocate and I have been able to convince our company that OSS isn't scary and have made a lot of progress on that front.

    • RE: "Xenserver 8" with PVS Accelerator showing Full Orphan VDIs

@olivierlambert no, other than the size parameter this is all configured automatically by the PVS Accelerator software in Xencenter / Xenserver 8.

I suspect all you have to determine it's identity is:

If (name-label -AND name-description eq "PVS cache VDI"); then "hide"

      @Danp

Yes I have looked at that page and uploaded my json file.

Xenserver Client ID shows as "configured".

We would be unable and unwilling to switch to xcp-ng as it would cost significantly more than what we pay for Xenserver ($0). We have premium licensing which gives us Xenserver for "free".

    • "Xenserver 8" with PVS Accelerator showing Full Orphan VDIs

PVS Accelerator in the Citrix product uses tmpfs / MemorySR VDIs to cache disk blocks in Dom0 RAM for use with their Provisioning Services product.

It might be worth hiding them in XOA for Xenserver users since these will always show "Orphaned" and "Full".

You can see these under "Dashboard" --> "Health"

"Name" and "Description" is always "PVS cache VDI"

    • "Xenserver 8" patching

      Good Morning,

      XOA Version: 5.95.1
      XOA Build shows: 20240401

I have just installed and registered a trial version of XOA to do a POC on a "Xenserver 8.4.0 (premium-per-socket)" environment.

I have successfully connected all of my pools but when I click on one of my pools and go to the "Patches" tab it shows no missing patches (Xencenter says there are patches available) and Applied patches is empty (Xencenter shows a... hash?).

The same empty "Applied Patches" appears when I look at the hosts individually as well. And it shows "Host up-to-date!" in the upper right corner.

I then changed the Release Channel on XOA to latest and updated the appliance.

      XOA Version: 5.97.0
      XOA Build: 20240401

There was no change in outcome.

I have rebooted the appliance to verify that was not the issue.

Is patching Xenserver 8.4.0 supported in XOA?

    • Xenserver 8 Support

      Good day,

We are looking at XO for managing 4x Xenserver 8 (released in 2024) pools. I don't see Xenserver 8 on the list of supported versions.

      Is this planned or not?
