Restore fails with import_error
-
We are doing full backups with XOA to a SMB storage. When we try to restore we get this error:
{"code":"IMPORT_ERROR","params":["INTERNAL_ERROR: [ Stream_vdi.Failure(\"Expected to find an inline checksum, found file called: Ref:16807/00000000.xxhash\")We have tried to import the XVA file in XCP-ng Center and get a import error there as well. This is for all the backups but one that has been skipping since januar due to a vdi-chain error. Backup is nice, but restore is better. How can fix this?

@Hans Are you running XOA (the prebuilt appliance) or XO VM built from sources? What version / commit is your installation?
-
@Danp I think it is the prebuilt as it is Debian 10.
I just updated XOA to version 5.73.1 and I think it was version 5.3.3 before.

You are trying to restore an XVA generated by a more recent version of Citrix Hypervisor/XCP-ng to an older XCP-ng/Citrix Hypervisor.
XAPI is providing forward compatibility, not backward. Please upgrade your probably old XCP-ng/XenServer host to be able to restore this XVA.
-
@olivierlambert The backup is only 3 days old, and nothing has changed. The host XCP version is 8.2. We updated XCP in march and I have some old backups from before the update that work, so it could be something with the new version.

No, the problem is on the destination (where you import) NOT the source.
The source (where the XVA is generated) is using a new "format" that's not compatible with older XenServer.
What's the version of your destination host? (where you are trying to import the XVA)
-
@olivierlambert Of course you are correct, we have not updated the DR site yet, where I did the restore. The version on the DR site is 8.0.0.
Thank you for the fast answer and solution!

You are welcome. As an XOA user (Starter, right?) you could have also create a support ticket, with a guarantee regarding the response time (which is not the case here). Feel free to create tickets in the future

@olivierlambert Thank you Olivier, posting it here can maybe help somebody else who does the same mistake
