Re: Restore Delta Backup with RAM
HI team,
I'm trying to restore a linux vm from a delta backup with ram.
Backup went fine but when i start restore, it stop immediatly with VM_BAD_POWER_STATE error message.
If I do a full backup "with ram" restore goes to then end but vm stay in halted state, is it a normal behavior ?

I'm using orchestra from source and xcp-ng 8.2, both up to date.

We lack a bit of context, especially on the XO version you are using.

Can you post the full error message? FWIW, I just tested this with XOA and it worked correctly for me.

Yes. The VM will be in a suspended state unless you select the option to start the VM after restoration.

Are you finding this under Settings > Logs or somewhere else?

FWIW, I can't replicate on this side. Does this happen with all VMs or only those migrated from ESXi?

Yes i find it in settings / logs
this vm was imported from vmware with orchestra's tool, all went fine.
I've done three tests : all 3 backups ended succesfully
1-delta backup, snapshot with ram
Restore don't even start, error message
2-full backup,snapshot without ram
Restore ok but at the end vm is in halted state, i think the vm should be in suspended state
I can start vm, not sure where the ram is gone
3-full backup, offline snapshot
Restore, boot ok

I didn't test with another, i'll do this test asap

Was the "without ram" above a typo? If not, then halted is the correct state since the memory wasn't captured during the backup.

@jmm Can you check to see if the health check is turned off? In your backup config, it'll be in the schedule just under the "Replication Retention" section. I've found that you can leave it on, but it will "fail" (despite the recovery working fine, unchecking it will get rid of the error on subsequent backups).
