Internal error: Not_found after Vinchin backup
-
I have figured out that every time Vinchin runs a full backup (Every Friday) something happens after the VM gets backed up. Today I found that 3 out of 4 of my VMs on one host had thrown some disk errors. I powered them off and attempted to migrated those 3 over from host 4 to host 3. They failed to migrated with a Internal error: Not_found message. I was able to migrate them to another host 2. I have since worked with a test VM and was able to migrate it to host 1 and host 2 but not host 3 or 4. 3 and 4 throwing that Not_found error. The weird thing is I have one VM running on host4 without issues right now. I have checked (dmesg) on host 3 and I am not seeing any storage errors. Also have VMs running on host 3 without issues. I am not sure where to go from here. Do I stop using Vinchin for backing up the VMs?

Hi,
Vinchin is not support/developed by Vates, have you asked them first?
Any reason not to use Xen Orchestra for VM backup?
-
My hosts are randomly losing connection with the SR with blk_update_request I/O error dev xvda. This does not happen on all host at the same time and only happens on Sundays with the additional error xcp-ng I/O error while coalescing.
Otherwise everything works find until the next Sunday. Has anyone else experienced this?
-
Maybe your SR is overloaded with coalesce?
-
Ok, thank you. Now to figure out a solution besides stopping the full VM backups. Now seeing extra disks in storage. Attached
. I have no idea what to do.
-
Again, you should ask Vinchin, I have no idea what Vinchin does behind the scene. You should open a support case on their side so they can investigate
-
Ok, thank you. Can you tell me what I need to do about the extra disks shown?
-
I have no idea since I don't know what Vinchin is doing with those disks.
-
Ok. Well no more Vinchin. I will not be using that any longer. However, I am a little nervous as to what xcp-ng does on Sundays for garbage collection or coalescing on those disks. Do you think I will have further issues because of that? I apologize, I just want everything cleaned up and not use Vinchin for backups.
Thank you -
I don't mind if you use Vinchin, it's just that I cannot answer personally on "if it's normal" because I have no idea how the product works. Feel free to ask them, they might have an answer.
Regarding the storage issue, it's hard to tell without any log or details you have found on your end.

@olivierlambert Never heard of them so went to their site and what did I find:
Recommended? By whom? Gives the impression by vates.
And with the webinar below.... -
Oh wow. I read the recommended as well. But, no more. Are there specific logs I could post to have forum take a look at. Also, I received a couple of emails regarding xoa trial. However, I tried it a long long time ago so I don't know if I can trial it again. Would xoa help look at things?
-
Also. I am going to let things go for a week without VM backups via Vinchin. I have other website backups so I 'm fine. However, does xcp-ng do coalesce on Sundays any other jobs that would fail with those extra leftover disks?
-
Yes, Vinchin is a working backup solution on top of XCP-ng, but I cannot tell what they are doing with it exactly. I've seen a demo on backup/restore that worked, and on what I've seen back when I've been demonstrated, it worked.
Telling that's the recommended backup solution for XCP-ng is probably the power of marketing.
See https://docs.xcp-ng.org/project/ecosystem/#-vm-backup
It's not agentless, it requires to run something in the Dom0, IIRC.

Let me know in private message your registered XOA trial email so I can extend it. From XOA, you should be able to watch what's going on. Even if in theory, an XOA free will be enough

@rustylh Did you follow the instructions to visit the page and a cept the self-signed certificates?
-
Yes
-
@rustylh Great! Are you now able to move beyond the error you posted above?
