"Xenserver 8" patching
-
Yes I have looked at that page and uploaded my json file.
Xenserver Client ID shows as "configured".
We would be unable and unwilling to switch to xcp-ng as it would cost significantly more than what we pay for Xenserver ($0). We have premium licensing which gives us Xenserver for "free".
-
@infecticide If you have support for XOA, then I would recommend opening a ticket so that we can investigate this for you.
-
@Danp is there support on trial licenses?
-
@infecticide I won't speak for the folks at Vates, but in my (and by extension my employer's) experience, they do! And they treat you just like a regular paying customer. They've been super prompt and resolve issues faster than VMware!
-
Yeah what @nick-lloyd said - We've been a XOA customer since 2016 and support is great.
When it comes to choosing XenServer over XCP-NG I dont get that @infecticide, when you can have the whole ecosystem from 1 provider(vates). -
I just wanted to follow up with the replies here:
-
Yes, there is support on trial licenses! Dan is helping me out with my ticket.

My company is a large corporation that uses Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops and Citrix Provisioning Services. As part of our "Premium Licensing" Citrix give us Xenserver for free. Xenserver also has the "PVS Accelerator" function which xcp-ng does not have. I had floated the idea of switching to xcp-ng at one point a few years ago when it was clear xcp-ng had become a superior version of the product. When you are getting something for $0, trying to convince a company to pay for the same thing doesn't make much sense.
Having said that, we also went through an exercise to see how much it would cost us to go to VMWare. That would have standardized us on a single hypervisor within our global company. Our team is the only one that uses Xenserver. Since everyone was "Broadcom'd" that ended pretty quickly.
I have been watching xcp-ng since it's inception and I have nothing but respect and accolades for the strides made by Vates to improve a product that Citrix has let languish. I am an OSS advocate and I have been able to convince our company that OSS isn't scary and have made a lot of progress on that front.

I feel you @infecticide - We're 50/50 XCP-NG and VMware but since we're very memory hungry the per core licensing isn't really a big deal.
We'll pay less once we've finished our current migration to the new hardware (including licensing) that we're working on now.Whats your experience with Citrix Support?
I remember they always tried referring us to a "local partner" which billed us hourly, least to say that was it for us and we ditched Citrix Support and the paid version of XenServer. -
As far as I can tell, we get support directly from Citrix not 3rd parties.
I've been dealing with the same 3 or 4 folks in Xenserver and PVS support since I started at my company 10 years ago.
Citrix is one of the few vendors we have that we don't have much to complain about.
-
Happy you have a better experience with Citrix than we had, but in their favour that pushed us to Vates and we've been happy ever since
-
@infecticide I have same problem, XO works fine with Citrix hypervisor but not with new Xen 8
-
@Danp Is Xenserver 8 patching supported in XOA? Update is little different than before and config describe at https://xen-orchestra.com/docs/updater.html#xenserver-updates works only with "citrix hypervisor"
-
@RS I believe that our developers are looking into this.
