    • RE: XCP-ng 8.2.0 RC now available!

So one error I got was on a XO backup job from a VM I moved from an 8.1 pool to a my test 8.2RC pool.

Error: INTERNAL_ERROR((Failure "Expected string, got '{}'"))

Update: I get this error on a new backup job also. This is on XO from the sources, I'll test with XOA also.

Update: this is working from XOA, not sure why I got the error in XO (from sources)... and I got 86.73 MiB/s. Which I think is faster than 8.1.

Update: this is now working for XO (from the sources) after I updated to 5.70.0 / 5.74.0 🌠 thanks for the great products.

@stormi yea, I wasn't concerned about it was just documenting how it's normal I guess. Actually it's a helpful error even because then I knew to boot the USB the legacy (non-uefi) way.

    • RE: How do I attach a network to a PIF

@kevdog so in the hosts area it's listed as a private network (it has no PIF right now). In the Pool networks I can't edit the PIF or VLAN either.

Can I upgrade from Citrix Xen Server 7.1? I have an old host running that that I can test with.

update: putting 8.2RC1 ISO on a USB stick and trying it

update (upgrade from 7.1 using 8.2RC1 iso):

      1. on first boot of the install ISO I got a nominal error of
Installer mode (UEFI) is mismatched with target boot mode (legacy)

      1. Booting the usb stick from non UEFI resolved this and I was able to preform the upgrade install, on first boot I saw error on the screen that sat there for a while but then the console came up after a couple mins
ACPI BIOS Error (bug): Could not resolve [\_SB.PCI0.SAT0.SPT2._GTF.DSSP], AE_NOT_FOUND (20180810/psargs-330)

      1. in XOA it says I need 1 patch but isn't showing a patch.
        1patcherror.PNG

      2. Installed Windows 10 from newest ISO, UEFI boot seems to be working well, installed Citrix Hypervisor PV Tools (managementagentx64.msi)

      3. I noticed I can change the video resolution of my windows 10 VM from 1024x768? Any Idea how I fix this? (there was a post about needing to maybe change this in the UEFI settings but how do I get to those? (tried pressing a lot of F keys on boot and del and such)

      Answer is here: https://xcp-ng.org/forum/topic/3498/windows-resolution-not-higher-than-1024x768/10

    • RE: How do I attach a network to a PIF

@kevdog so let's say I want to connect WAN to eth0 for vlan 999 I don't see how to edit this in XO. I do see In XCP-ng Center it seems like I could change it that way. I guess my question is where do I go in XO for this.

@olivierlambert i tried to upload a picture but I got this forum error

Something went wrong installing the "sharp" module /lib64/libz.so.1: version `ZLIB_1.2.9' not found (required by /usr/share/nginx/html/forum/node_modules/sharp/build/Release/../../vendor/lib/libpng16.so.16) - Remove the "node_modules/sharp" directory then run "npm install --ignore-scripts=false --verbose" and look for errors - Consult the installation documentation at https://sharp.pixelplumbing.com/install - Search for this error at https://github.com/lovell/sharp/issues

I have a network that I want to attach to a PIF and assign a vlan to but I can't edit it. Any ideas where I need to click or do I need to do this from cli? or something else?

Hi, I was wondering if there is a way for Continuous Replication to specify the source and destination host used for the transport. It looks like it just uses the masters by default?

    • RE: Backups stuck at "started" when it looks like they finished

@tony It was just a one-off. I've been using XO for snapshots and delta backups and it's been working great. Even this 1 time the backups were still fine, it was just a GUI status and email issue I guess. I just rebooted my XO VM and everything was fine after that. After I rebooted the status was "interrupted" until the next time the job ran, and it ran fine.

    • Backups stuck at "started" when it looks like they finished

Hi, last night I had multiple backup jobs that in the schedule it says "started" still but in the restore tab you can see the backups as if they are completed. The logs also seem to have "success" throughout. Any ideas or what went wrong? Should I just restarted XO and hope all is well now?

    • RE: Live Migration gone bad, Help!

@stormi so to be clear i can't force shutdown it on the old pool unless you know a way to. it tells me "internal error: Ojbect with type VM and id blahblah /cofnig does not exist in xenopsd (this is trying force shutdown with xen center, it also didn't work with xo).

    • RE: Live Migration gone bad, Help!

@stormi makes sense I just have other VMs in the old pool also so I can't really just pull the plug on all those hosts. The temp remove from XO did let me manage the migrated VM though, so thank you for the suggestion. It seems you are right though the issue is with the old pool now and I need to get rid of that VM.

so yeah it shows as running with same uuid on both pools with xe vm-list power-state:running

but I don't think it's really running on the old pool. as it's disk isn't even attached? and I can't get to the console.

    • Live Migration gone bad, Help!

So, I Migrated a vm from an old pool (Citrix Xen Server 7.1) to a new pool (XCP 8.1). It appears that the migration was successful but Xen Orchestra is showing the vm on the old pool with no disks and I can't shut it down or anything. And Xen Orchestra is not showing the vm in the new pool. But you can see it's disk in the new pool's SR. It's disk shows in the old pools SR also but not attached to a running VM. on Xen Orchestra I can't get to the console or anything of this VM.

On XCP-ng Center I am able to manage this VM as i'm only managing the new pool with XCP-ng. Help? Options? Best thing to do now?

    • RE: configure shared storage for VM for SQL Server Cluster

Synology could be something to get you shared storage on a budget. Or there are other virtual SAN techs like Starwind... OR likely the best of the best will be XO SAN when that is ready for xcp-ng.

BUT if you just want SQL always on availability groups, that doesn't need shared storage. But I think it's best with a XCP-ng HA group so you'd want shared storage for that full solution.
