@john-c said in Introduce yourself!: @TS79 said in Introduce yourself!: Hi. I'm a cloud solutions architect, with around 25 years of working experience in servers, storage, networking (your typical infrastructure stuff) and about 20 years of virtualisation. I started up a homelab many years ago, and through (too) many evolutions, I've ended up with Lenovo M710q mini PCs running XCP-ng, with another mini PC providing NFS storage (with backup and replication to cater for problems and failures). Absolutely love XCP-ng and am promoting it wherever I can. I've architected and kicked off a project at my employer to replace VMware with XCP-ng, so I'm keen to use the forum to read other people's real-world experiences with storage and host specs, hurdles to avoid, and any tips & tricks. Looking forward to interacting with the community more and more. When checking out Xen Orchestra make sure to look at both the Host Maintenance Mode and the SR Maintenance Mode. I came up with the idea for the SR Maintenance mode during the Covid-19 lock down in the UK. The Vates staff developed and implemented the idea, I pitched it as a useful tool for large infrastructures. The reason being that pools (especially large ones) can have multiple shared storage implemented as SRs. The maintenance mode for SR permits, some of the SR to be put in maintenance mode when the backing separate bare metal hardware is in maintenance, while keeping others not in this situation active. So your less likely to need to put the host in maintenance mode, thus improving pools which are using HA, increasing the up time further. So the VMs aren't affected, when the VMs have been migrated to another storage SR, thus aiding in reducing down time for the VMs. This is a great feature, but I havent used it - How does it work? Is it something like: You put the SR in maintenance mode VM's are migrated to another shared SR Notification about SR maintenance completed?

@TrapoSAMA said: @john.c I have this iso but how to know what is de package? Thx It’s going to be an msi installer package or on the guest tools iso, which is on the XCP-ng or Xen Server your running likely in Local Storage SR or Shared Storage SR (if moved). Named the same as the file linked to above, likely. Anyway did you know that the UEFI SecureBoot certificates (at least one of them from 2011) issued by Microsoft are expiring fully during October 2026. Around that time likely at sometime after then those certificates will be placed into dbx. This means the Windows Server 2012 R2 if operating as a UEFI SecureBoot VM, will if restarted (or reboot following a crash), fail to boot. So your client will go from having a working app that they can use, but not upgrade at the moment to one which won’t work and can’t be used! They really need to upgrade or migrate from Windows to Linux (released during 2025 or 2026) along with the app if needed. Alternatively upgrade to Windows Server 2022 or 2025 and the app!

@nikade more beautiful than scary, it goes in an usual place where no one lives as you can see on satellite view it's an effusive éruption, not explosive, i was barely 100m when taking photos and you can also poke lava with a stick if you want (but need appropriate masks because of harming gazes like sulfur) not the first time it goes to the sea, the island expands slowly no casualties except from some fishes

@CodeMercenary I spoke too soon. Came in last night and it sounded like it was ready for take-off. So I restarted the container. This is so ridiculous... I think I did get 24-48 hours of quiet. So, a recheck interval of many minutes is probably fine. I think by default they start at like 5 seconds, which is needless.

It's not the first approach, you have KubeVirt for example.

@Angela I removed your link to a 3rd party website related to the installation of uipath as I don't see how it is related to XCP-ng. Please refrain from including these unrelated links as they will likely get removed again in any future posts.

@wilsonqanda Using HA adds more complexity (to XCP-ng and front-/backend systems). Your use case should really require HA to justify that complexity, especially if you add geo-replication to the mix. Most scenarios can probably be addressed with incremental replication for a low recovery point objectiv (RPO) and a good recovery time objective (RTO), but your mileage my vary.

Hey, I get the frustration with Facebook services, but don't count them out just yet. They've had their hiccups, but many still find value. On a related note, if you're exploring other platforms, consider Twitch. It's vibrant, and for a quick boost, some users swear by strategies like Twitch followers instant delivery. Just a thought for your online presence journey!
