Re: FILE RESTORE / overlapping loop device exists we still had this annoying probleme where we couldn't FLR our backup, source VM could be Windows or linux, with or without LVM... (see error logs in previous thread, overlapping loop...) latest XOA is installed. on a secondaray XO CE, I mounted the same remote, and NO PROBLEMS AT ALL... soooo I thought my main XOA is probably beaten up somewhere... but that was not it. all remotes on main XOA are attached to a XO PROXY (official, not CE) ! on the XO CE that is in another datacenter, I mounted the S3 remotes directly WITHOUT the proxy use, and it worked. On main XOA, we offload all backup tasks to proxies, so all remotes are attached to a proxy... I duplicated a remote, same conf, but without proxy, so that XOA would do the restore job, not the proxy, and voila, all is working as intended, FLR is okay on main datacenter. TLDR : FLR is not working with proxy attached remotes, if you duplicate the remote without the XO PROXY, all good @florent @bastien-nollet I think there is something to look into. probably a race condition, the XOA and the XO PROXY both try to mount the loop device ?

Version 1.4.0 is released: https://codeberg.org/NiXOA/system/releases/tag/v1.4.0 It includes significant changes and improvements, including: dedicated getting started section, migration to valkey, only needing to clone system, and helper scripts. the xen-orchestra-ce nixpkg now references the libvhdi nixpkg, and the core flake now references and pulls from the xen-orchestra-ce repo as an overlay. System (the user input flake) now uses the Core repo as an overlay, reducing the need to clone both locally AND allowing system to pull new updates and releases from core. XO, and libvhdi as needed. The next goal is: Make an xsconsole-like TUI Automate package updates for libvhdi and xen-orchestra-ce using CI/CD pipelines Submit libvhdi and xen-orchestra-ce as official nixpkgs

@vincentp I'd personally go with a 10GbE switch just to be sure there are no bottlenecks from that, I don't really think you'll hit full 10GbE for a replication job but it's better to alleviate that IMO.

@abelaguilar Sounds good, yeah I think that is the easiest method to go about it, rather than direct attached networking.

@RaHu In theory you would want to change the MTU of parent interface in OPNSense to 9000. In my case testing is not possible since I run all vlans off a since interface (2x10gbe NIC) and do not want to change the MTU of systems outside my virtual environment. Anyways, with the change mentioned above you achieve 10gbe speeds between VMs.

@SNSNSN Indeed, these would typically at least be isolated via vlans at least (one vlan for iscsi traffic, one for iscsi). There's no point in having them in two different subnets if they're in the same network and vlan, the traffic isn't isolated at all. You might as well have them in the same subnet if you're doing that, in which case you only need 1 IP on the XCP-ng management NIC.

@rochemike sorry for the late reply! If we already have an ISO on an SR, do we even need to mount the ISO for a network build of Centos/RHEL? Isn't... shouldn't it be possible for the ISO to be mounted by the new build VM as source for creating the new VM, instead of using network build? That is exactly what packer-plugin-xenserver#56 accomplishes. The new VM mounts the guest tools to the DVD - which I don't even want to use as I prefer to install a package afterwards. Is it possible to mount the RHEL/Centos ISO instead? I believe the ISO and guest tools are treated the same -- both VBDs are attached as cds. If you can identify what is different about them in the UI or from the xe cli that would help me understand what you trying to describe. As for what is possible, if what you want to configure is accessible via the XCP-ng / Xenserver API the packer plugin could be enhanced to perform that action. Hope this helps explain more on the potential possibilities.

@dredge999 yeah in hindsight thats what I should have done I wonder if I can restore the config files and have the VM operational again. It's more getting it to stop now without a host restart

@Flying9167 It's indeed not possible at this to filter which users are allowed to sign in with XO auth plugins. At this time it should be handled at the authentication provider itself and it does not look like GitHub OAuth implementation supports it.

@olivierlambert its custom config, not any bug. Ill point it out what i mean below. I have standard ubuntu template -> I would like my vm to be already customize, when its created, because its faster and easier when everything is in one place -> So for that i have created cloud-init for eg.-> #cloud-config hostname: <hostname> package_update: true package_upgrade: true write_files: - path: /etc/ssl/certs/mydomain.crt content: | <certificate data> - path: /etc/ssl/private/mydomain.key content: | <private key data> runcmd: - apt-get update - DEBIAN_FRONTEND=noninteractive apt-get upgrade -y So my main problem is that this, particular cloud-init has fixed <certificate data> and <private key data>, that i would like to not be passed as a plain text, because it is a secret. To me its not done (for now) with best practices, but its very comfortable. So finally, i am wondering what is the best solution, for not putting secrets as a plain text, but rather keep them as a secret. I could create templates and later delete cloud-config with those data, but it would be more flexible, if there would be any chance to connect it to Hashicorp Vault or something that will dynamically fetch secrets.
